Yule or Winter Solstice is a joyous time of making merry, giving and welcoming back the sun. In the Asheville area, there are many events celebrating this heritage.
Divination
This time of the year is a time of introspection and divination. Asheville's Raven and Crone has a Runes 101 workshop on December 2nd, or you could attend the Asheville Tarot Circle that meets on December 10th at Firestorm.
Ritual and Celebration
Both the local Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans (December 17th) and Asheville Raven and Crone's Circle Round (December 21st) are having Yule celebrations that will incorporate ritual. While the Mother Grove Goddess Temple will be holding a full moon ritual on December 3rd.
Witch School
For us witches, school is always in session! As always Becky Beyer of Blood and Spicebush has some fascinating workshops throughout December that explore the heritage of traditional European witchcraft. Dogwood Alliance is hosting "The Stories Trees Tell" on December 2nd. Asheville Raven and Crone  have their regular "Ask a Witch" session on December 15th and a healing for empaths class on the 17th. Villagers will help you discover the kitchen witch in you with"Chocolate Alchemy" on December 13th and "The Magic of Botanical Distilling" on December 17th.
Social Awareness and Giving Back
Be sure and try and get to the screening of the powerful documentary "13th" followed by a panel discussion sponsored by CJJ/West and the ACLU of North Carolina’s Western NC Chapter that will take place on December 4th.  Highland Brewing's regular "Pints for a Purpose" is held this year to benefit Homeward Bound of WNC.

We really have only shown you a handful of everything that's going on in December. Check our calendar as well as the websites of the different organizations for more. Part 2 will look at Art events in the area.
