Happy merry everything to all! This last week we celebrated the Solstice, Christmas and my husband’s birthday. Now we are enjoying time off and grazing on leftovers. I want to share a couple of ornaments I made for friends and the story behind each design.

The Cactus
My friend Lisa Sousa is an incredible artist whose drive is inspiring to me. She made the decision a couple of years ago to take her art seriously and has flourished. I find her work ethic amazing. I have two paintings by her that are plant and rock studies. I love her palette and she paints a lot of succulents and cacti, hence the ornament! This one is a combo kimono silks and embroidery. I am especially pleased with how the needles came out. https://www.lisanatashasousa.com/

The Record
This ornament is for my friend Ursula Gullow, also an artist. During lockdown, her husband did an online DJ set every Saturday and it was so fun to see them dancing in their basement. The music was awesome too! Ursula has been a dear friend and mentor for years. Each ornament was attached to felt to keep the shape. I was running late making them so I used a special tape that can be used for adhering fabric permanently. Not sure I would use this again since I prefer a stitched look. Anyway I like the way the foil thread added some sparkle to the record. It made it more festive and imitates the shine you get on vinyl. https://ursulagullow.com/home.html
